Nina Beck: Hello, I am Nina Beck. I am an Instructor for the Teaching and Learning Department in the College of Education. I am honored to be a part of this wonderful learning experience and to take this journey with such a remarkable group of CEHD students. I am most excited about the opportunities to connect with children in Belize and make a difference in their lives, as I am sure they will ours.
Julia Conley: Hello, I’m Julia. I am a senior majoring in Elementary Education. I was inspired to travel to Belize by my sister. She traveled with U of L and came back with many stories about how wonderful the country and people were. I’m really looking forward to meeting a lot of new people and learning different teaching strategies.
Julie Elliott: Hi, I’m Julie. I am a Master’s student in Elementary Education. I love traveling and I think this is one of the most exciting ways to develop myself as a well-rounded teacher and professional. I am looking forward to taking in the Belizean culture and learning about all of our similarities and differences. I hope to learn about teaching students from diverse backgrounds and I hope to discover new strategies for teaching all students from my host teachers.
Jessica Farmer: Hi, my name is Jessica Farmer. I believe that culture and diversity are very important and think we can all teach each other new things. I am looking forward to learning about Belize’s culture and how classrooms are run outside of the U.S. Maybe I can implement their customs in my classroom one day. Most of all, I am excited about meeting my class and hope to learn from the students!
Josephine Hardison: Hello! My name is Josephine Hardison. I am currently working on my Masters of Elementary Education. I love learning from other cultures, and I am very excited to see how the people in Belize live and interact with each other. Also, I am looking forward to seeing the schools.
Nolan Johnson: Hi, I’m Nolan Johnson. I have always wanted to take part in a mission trip type of experience, and this trip to Belize not only provides me an opportunity to travel, but an opportunity to help people. I hope to see another side of life that I feel Americans are rarely exposed to; experiencing another culture, one that is used to surviving on the bare minimum. I also hope to gain some valuable friendships.
Olivia Kaiser: Hi, I’m Olivia. This will be my first trip to Belize. I am looking forward to emerging myself into another culture, experiencing how the people of Belize live, learning about their beliefs, and analyzing how teaching varies by location.
Courtney Lewis: My name is Courtney Lewis. I can’t wait to work with the students and gain experience in teaching. I am also looking forward to learning about a culture different than my own, seeing the beauty of the country, and growing as a future educator.
Briana McCall: Hi, my name is Briana. I am a senior at U of L with a major in Elementary Education with a concentration on English. I am looking forward to meeting all of the teachers and students in Belize! There is so much that I want to learn from them and I want to be able to share what I have learned from attending U of L as well. I want to experience all that Belize has to offer.
Marcela Moore: Hi, I’m Marcela. I was first inspired to travel to Belize because of the experience I will gain and how much I will learn. I hope to learn about the culture in Belize, in addition to new teaching techniques and strategies I can use in the future. I am looking forward to exploring the country, working with students, and learning from them.
Tyler Morris: Hi, my name is Tyler Morris. I am a junior at the University of Louisville and majoring in Middle/Secondary Math Education. This will be my first trip to Belize. I love working with children and cannot wait to interact with them.
Christina Nichols: My name is Christina. I am a senior at the University of Louisville and majoring in Elementary Education. I have never before been to Belize, and I am most interested in seeing how their school system functions.
Dr. Margaret Pentecost: As the leader of the team, I'm looking forward to the trip and working with our CEHD students and the children in the schools of Belize. Our team has worked hard to learn about the history, culture, schools, and government of Belize. Now, we are eager to teach the lessons that we have prepared. Thank you for following our adventures in Belize.
Jasmine Piernas: Hello! I’m Jasmine. This will be my first trip to Belize and I am looking forward to meeting all of the students and teachers and working in the classrooms. I hope to learn different styles of teaching from the teachers I will be working with. I am also excited to sightsee!
Jessica Smith: Hi, my name is Jessica Smith. I am looking forward to gaining teaching experience and learning about the students, their families, and the country of Belize. I have always wanted to travel abroad to learn about different cultures first hand, and I hope that the students do not only make an impact on me, but that I make an impact on them as well.
Mindy Smith: Hi, my name is Mindy Smith. I am a junior in the School of Education with a concentration on Middle School Math. This is my first trip to Belize and I am excited to learn about its different cultures. I am also looking forward to obtaining positive teaching experience and more exposure to diversity.
Kathryn Strobel: Hello, I'm Kathryn. I am a first year Master’s student in the College Student Personnel program at U of L. After months of planning and organizing, I am so excited to embrace this opportunity. As the intern for this trip, I am looking forward to being exposed to a new culture, environment, and experiences, while supporting our U of L students in any way I can.
Alisa Vaughan: Hi, I am Alisa. I love to travel to new places and experience new cultures. I hope to learn more about the country of Belize and about teaching, especially in a new environment. I am looking forward to getting to know all of the teachers and students at the Belize schools while learning about how Belize runs their schools.
Keri Vogt: Hello everyone! My name is Keri Vogt. I am looking forward to this trip to Belize so that I can learn about their culture and gain experience being in front of a classroom on my own. I am definitely looking forward to all of the excursions and sightseeing, but I am also excited to meet my new students and learn from them as they learn from me.
Shavon Wagner: Hi! I am the Program Coordinator for the Education Academic Support Department. I have never before been to Belize and I am so excited to partake in this experience. I enjoy working with children, trying new things, and learning from others. I am hoping to learn as much as possible from this experience.
Kelli Williams: Hello! I am Kelli. I am excited to travel to Belize for the purpose of helping to educate others. I am most excited and nervous about having a unique teaching experience where I am thrown into a different culture. Also, I’m interested in seeing the education system and culture of another country.
